Why masseter enlargement occurs

The masseter is one of the strongest muscles in the body and plays a key role in chewing and jaw stability. Chronic clenching, grinding (bruxism), stress, or habitual overuse can cause the muscle to enlarge over time.

As the masseter becomes more prominent, it can widen the lower face, alter jawline shape, and contribute to facial imbalance. Increased muscle tension may also be associated with jaw discomfort, headaches, or tooth wear, even in individuals who are otherwise asymptomatic.
